Velvetdoordesign is just me, Kordula Coleman. I'm a german native who came to Minnesota in the year 2000, for love. That worked out rather well, so now my husband and me have two children, make music together as a duo called Fake Tourist and him and this country have been very supportive and encouraging towards my art. So I finally returned to my two old loves, drawing and ceramic sculptures, which were more or less on the backburner while I studied graphic design and worked in advertising agencies in Duesseldorf and Cologne, Germany. I learned many valuable skills there nonetheless, made lots of friends and had lots of fun too! But I feel very happy to have found my way back especially to making sculptures, since I feel that it is the most genuine way for me to express myself. I have always been fascinated by the shape and beauty of the human body. So my sculptures always show that love, and my fascination for the endless possibilities of expressing feelings or telling a story just by a certain pose, tilt of the head, or other gesture of the body. . Two of the sculptures shown are of an early time, when I was in my teens, the mother-with-child, and the nativity scene, the others have all been created in the last seven years. Some of them are on display and for sale at Columbia Grounds Coffeeshop, 3301 Central Avenue NE, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
